As per inputs received, the Supreme Court decided to dismiss all petitions demanding the relaxation or removal of this eligibility criteria today, May 29, 2023.
The matter was heard today by a single judge bench of Justice Dhulia J. Upon hearing the matter, Justice Dhulia dismissed the petitions and stated that the court will “have to defer to experts”. “We have to defer to experts,” Dhulia J said,” read a tweet issued by Live Law. After the plea for relaxation was dismissed by the, many students and advocates moved to the Supreme Court for relief. Students were pushing for the relaxation of this criteria as those who did not meet the criteria will not be able to attend the counselling for the JEE Exams in June 2023.
As per this criteria, only those students who have achieved a minimum of 75 percent or are in the top 20 percentile in their Class 12th Board Exams will be able to apply for admissions in government institutions such as IIT, NIT, IITS and other CFTI’s. NTA has concluded the JEE Main 2023 Exam. The results for both – Paper 1 and Paper 2 have been released.

Till December first week, a total of 87 companies belonging to software and IT, finance and banking, analytics and consulting, core engineering, e-commerce, automobile, infrastructure, manufacturing, and health care have recruited students for various profiles from IIT Patna.
Kripa Shankar Singh, Training and Placement Officer, IIT Patna, said, “In BTech, the department of computer science and engineering (CSE) topped the list with 96 per cent placements, followed by electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering. The highest packages have also been fetched by computer science students.” The highest domestic package of Rs 61.3 lakh per annum was offered to 9 IIT Patna students by, an American multinational computer technology corporation.

At the end of phase-I, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur received an impressive 47 international offers. The highest packages so far are USD 287,550 for international and Rs 1.2 crore for domestic. Most of these companies are either tech development organisations or offer augmenting technology as a service. Subodh Sharma, the institute’s placement officer, said, “As per the recommendations of the IIT Placement committee, we cannot disclose the highest package. But, students from CSE have received the highest paying job offers with roles in software development, core engineering, consulting, analytics, and finance domains.

The first phase of the 2022-23 placement season at IIT Kanpur has concluded with 33 students getting packages that paid more than Rs 1 crore from companies like Reliance Jio, PwC, Intel, Microsoft, etc. A placement committee member at IIT Kanpur told Business Today, “Phase one of the 2022-23 placement session has ended, and we have received 33 job offers where the package is more than Rs 1 crore.” The phase one of the IIT Kanpur placement session 2022-23 started on December 1 and ended on December 15.

Interestingly, out of all the offers, 74 were international offers and the rest were domestic. The number of international offers has gone up 57 per cent from the last placement session, the institute noted. It is also worth noting that more than 250 companies participated in the placement round.
