Home | KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA (CMERI) DURGAPUR Kendriya Vidyalaya, (Hindi: Kendriya Vidyalayas) (Hindi for Central School) is a system of central government schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Deveopment, Government of India. The system came into being in 1965 under the name “Central Schools”, and has been affiliated with CBSE since then.
- Later, the name was changed to “Kendriya Vidyalaya”.
- Its original objective was to educate children of the Indian defence services personnel who are often posted to remote places.
- With the army starting its own Army Public Schools, the service was extended (but not restricted) to all central government employees.
The uniform curriculum followed by these schools all over India ensures that the children of government employees do not face educational disadvantages when their parents are transferred by providing a common syllabus and system of education. A body known as the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (Central School Organization) oversees the functioning of these schools.
It operates from its headquarters situated in New Delhi. Presently, there are Approx 1185 schools known as Kendriya Vidyalayas, out of which Approx 1182 are in India and three are located abroad. Approx 12 Lakh students and Approx 55 Thousand employees (including outsourced) are on rolls, These have been divided amongst 25 regions, each headed by an Assistant Commissioner.
The three Kendriya Vidyalayas outside India are in Kathmandu, Moscow and Tehran, They are intended for children of Indian Embassy staff and other expatriate employees of Government of India. One school in Tshimalakha, Bhutan, was transferred to the Bhutanese government, thus having ceased to be a Kendriya Vidyalaya (then known as Indo-Bhutan Central School (IBCS)) in 1989, after one of the major Indo-Bhutan projects (The Chukhha Hydal power project) was near completion and Indian government employees were gradually transferred back to their home country.

In a bid to showcase its impressive results in national-level examinations, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has started seeking a quality accreditation for its schools.
The Quality Council of India (QCI) has accredited four schools so far – KV No.1 Uppal (Hyderabad) KV Hebbal (Bangalore), KV Sector-8 RK Puram (New Delhi) and KV IIT Powai (Mumbai) and the accreditation of KV Ganeshkhind (Pune), KV Aliganj (Lucknow), KV Ballygunge (Kolkata) and KV Khanapara is in the process.
Achievements The Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya schools have achieved many achievements under their cap. One of them is to have named a star after one of the Kendriya Vidyalayas. A Star in the sky has been named after Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Uppal, Hyderabad due to the efforts of some alumni belonging to the 1982-84 batch of the school and now settled in the USA.
The International Star Registry maintained in Switzerland had issued a certificate recording it in the astronomical compendium “your place in the Cosmos”. The star named after the school is in the “Ursa Minor” constellation (Laghu Sapt Rishi Mandalam). The group of students passed out their school in 1984 and are now heading top companies in the US.
On what led the Class of 1984 to take up the “starry expedition;” Mr.Vikas Sinha, Director at SPSS Inc. Chicago said, “We always wanted to give back something to our school which has instilled in us values and ethics. Moral Education Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangatha (KVS) has directed 1185 Kendriya Vidyalayas in 25 regions across the country to introduce the Integrity Club, which was first introduced on a pilot basis in New Delhi in October 2008. Some values highlighted are love, compassion, respect, and non-violence. Kendriya Vidyalayas also grant admission to students who do not belonging to families of government employees.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, here has been adjudged the best government day school in the country in the Education World India School Rankings 2015. The hitherto unranked school, trumped last year’s list topper KV-IIT Madras in the category.
A number of schools from the state figured in the top ten list in various categories. Education World has been publishing the annual Education World India School Rankings with C fore, a Delhi-based market research and opinion polls agency for the past seven years. “The objective of the annual EW India School Rankings is to track and proclaim the country’s best schools as role models for the entire community of educators, and inspire top-ranked schools themselves to improve from good to great,” said Dilip Thakore, founder-editor of EducationWorld.
The awards will be presented at a function scheduled to be held on September 25 in New Delhi. In the last four months 120 field personnel of C fore interviewed 11,660 people including parents, principals, teachers and students in 27 cities and persuaded them to rate schools in their region on a ten-point scale across 14 parameters of educational excellence.

New KVS symbol consists three elements related to educational activity. It consists images of rising Sun, open books, flying / buoyant birds and India’s tricolor flag along with the KVs motto written in Devanagari. They are presented in best possible graphical simplicity to maintain their essence, easy recognition and a lasting recall.
Books and flying birds are shown in a composite image. The simultaneous images of birds along the books form a single unite. Their circular alignment produces image of a Sun in the counter space. Interestingly, including the Sun all elements in new symbol are derived from the old symbol of the KVs! The inner space of symbol is seen as constantly radiating a glow or energy.
The portrayal of glow and energy is an attempt to visually translate and resonate the KVs motto which mentions about that hidden light behind the Sun, the spirit within its fire is now uncovered by a graceful movement of the Sun itself. As a whole number of similar elements generates a rhythmic and dynamic association with its center.

- Repetition of elements makes image of symbol easy to reproduce either manually or in digital media.
- Endriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is calibrating its 50th anniversary and a Golden Jubilee Year in 2013-14.

It is adored in all cultures hence seen as an entity discharging the affection and influence over every element that principally is part of it. Books are conservers and carriers of knowledge. They signify literacy and independence, availability and accessibility of knowledge and information.

Gold color is used to compliment the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Kvs. Gold is associated with Sun, wisdom, preciousness, enlightenment and excellence. Tricolors of national flag are symbolic of national integrity and unity in diversity. Use the new KVS symbol according to these guidelines: Maintain the oneness of overall form and set proportions of its all units – do not distort the form of symbol or its units in any way by squeezing, stretching, skewing, cropping, twisting, flipping or inversing.
Insist for colour system endorsed in the manual for printing or electronic media – do not change or alter the colours, do not use gradations, textures, outlines over the symbol. Use the symbol prominently. Take advantage of its visual influence by – representing them in good contrast to the background – placing them in adequate empty space from all other elements Use symbol on even, non-textured, non-patterned and on suggested background colours in this manual.
Do not display symbol on patterned or distracting and non-recommended background colors because such use weakens their legibility and it contradicts with symbols familiarity and its recall. Do not add or reduce elements in or around the symbol. The KVS symbol is a complete design in itself.
- Surrounding them with words, figures, graphic designs, shading, or outlines alters the design and consequently compromises on the impact as well as the exclusive impression gained from years of consistent display.
