In the tournament opener, defending champions England take on New Zealand at the world’s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, which will also host the final. India kick off their campaign against Australia on October 8 while the most-awaited clash between rivals India and Pakistan will be played in Ahmedabad on October 15.

Is World Cup streaming free in India?
Disney+ Hotstar rivals JioCinema, announces free streaming of ICC World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup : JioCinema is currently giving other streaming platforms a run for their money. The streaming service garnered attention by live streaming major sports tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup 2022 and IPL 2023.
- It further expanded its offerings by adding HBO shows to its digital library.
- To counter JioCinema’s increasing popularity, Disney+ Hotstar has announced that it will provide free live streaming of the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup tournaments to all users of its mobile app.
- Interestingly, Disney+ Hotstar used to offer streaming of IPL matches and HBO content on a subscription basis.
However, with JioCinema taking over these two significant streaming content, it seems like Disney+ Hotstar was left with no other option but to make the upcoming big event free for their users to retain the viewership. Talking about the latest announcement, Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar said, “Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue enhancing the viewer experience has allowed us to delight our audiences across the region.
- Making the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe, will help us grow the overall ecosystem.” Not just Disney+ Hotstar, Reliance Jio is currently up in the competition against all the significant streaming services.
- Other than IPL, and HBO content, recently JioCinema announced the streaming of the upcoming season of Bigg Boss OTT hosted by Salman Khan.
Originally, the celebrity reality show used to be streamed on Voot for subscribers. However, JioCinema is once again offering the 24/7 streaming of Bigg Boss OTT free for all users. However, in response to the growing competition, JioCinema is also gearing up to charge for its content, starting with the HBO library.
The streaming platform earlier announced the pricing of the JioCinema premium plan at Rs 999. With an annual validity, JioCinema currently offers only a single premium-paid plan. With its competitive and minimal pricing, JioCinema is directly targeting major rivals such as Netflix, Prime, and Disney. In other news, Jio is not only focusing on its streaming platform but also on developing its other platforms like JioSaavn.
The telecom operator has introduced new prepaid plans that include a free subscription to its music streaming service, JioSaavn. This means that prepaid customers will now receive JioSaavn Pro subscriptions along with their recharge plans. The JioSaavn subscription is available with five prepaid plans, each with a different validity period.

Reasons to avoid – – Interface needs improvement – Content is more of the same Xumo is another free streaming service with live and on-demand content. The app comes on several major smart TV brands and can also be downloaded on Roku, iOS and Android.
No registration is required. Xumo offers more than 190 channels, including top brands like NBC News, Fox Sports, Funny or Die and TMZ. Xumo’s main experience is a grid-type guide, just like you’d get with cable TV — and Pluto and Peacock. You can watch live as you channel surf. The on-demand area lists all the channels, broken down by genre.
The interface doesn’t make it that easy to see what TV shows are available, though. It looks like Xumo has the usual free fare: 21 Jump Street, Forensic Files, Family Feud and Unsolved Mysteries. The mobile app at least has a movies tab that you can browse. (Image credit: Comcast/NBC)

Is Hotstar free for World Cup 2023?
The decision to lift the paywall comes after Hotstar lost the streaming rights for the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament to Reliance Industries’ Jio Cinema earlier this year. (File image) Listen to this article Disney’s Hotstar makes streaming of ICC World Cup 2023, Asia Cup free for mobile users x Walt Disney Co’s Hotstar will offer free streaming of cricket tournaments in India on mobile devices, a move similar to its top rival JioCinema, as it aims to court more users in the cricket-crazy country.
Hotstar on Friday said it will offer the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup tournaments at no cost to users. The company lost the streaming rights for the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament to Reliance Industries’ JioCinema earlier this year. Research firm CLSA estimated that Hotstar’s subscriber base shrank by nearly 5 million users following the move.
JioCinema, which made the tournament free to watch, clocked a record 1.47 billion digital views in the first weekend of the tournament. While JioCinema is preparing to start charging users for its content, it plans to keep IPL streaming free, Jyoti Deshpande, president of Reliance’s media and content business, told Bloomberg in an April Interview.
